PC tools

SysInfo & Startup List

This is helpful to figure out if a program that runs at startup SHOULD be there.  To find out what's in your start up, go to Start > Run > type 'msconfig' and press enter.  Then view the startup folder and look up in the list to see if it should be there.

Bart's PE Bootable CD Good tool that let's you boot any PC with this CD that you create. Great for troubleshooting a PC that will not start or is infected.
Registry Cleaner

Excellent Freeware to clean your registry. Should save some time on startup of PC and apps. After running this, run the following app to defrag.

Registry Defrag Works very well. Run after the above. Best to take a stopwatch and time how long it takes your PC to start up and then time starting Outlook. After running the cleaner above, take the time, then after running this, take the time. You should see much better numbers

CCLeaner

Cleans up PC of all temp files including IE, downloads, HotFix downloads, etc

Undelete Plus

Undelete Plus is a quick and effective way to retrieve accidentally deleted files, files removed from the Recycle Bin.

PC De-Crapifier

IDEAL for a new PC.  Removes trial version software & other junk from new PC's

Online backup solution for your data. Does both back up or Sync for your data files. 

Keyfinder Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry.

Want to erase ALL data from your hard drive?

DriveImage XML

Creates backup image of entire PC hard drive.  Will create an image of PC, including all of hd, that can be restored.  Will not backup individual files, just all of hd.  Also can only restore to a hd of same or greater capacity.

DriveLook

Forensic disk investigation tool for looking at suspicious content on a PC.

Good anti-virus application that offers free Home user edition

Anti-Vir

Excellent virus protection system that is FREE. Have been using for a few years now, only hitch is it displays an ad most of the time. But you click close and the ad goes away.  

Virus removal tool

Free removal tool from Avast. Does not work on all virus’s, but many.

Free online virus scanner

Great way to find out if you have any viruses or spyware on your machine without having to uninstall your current antivirus software or install a new one.
